Bas-Saint-Laurent gives you access to diverse cultural activities, an effective health network and schools with programs that meet the needs of students. Health and Social Services Centre (CSSS) provide services in all municipalities. Bas-Saint-Laurent has four local hospitals offering basic services and two referral hospitals providing specialty care and basic services (Le Bas-Saint-Laurent, 2009). Waiting times for operations are very reasonable (Gouv du Québec, 2006).

The elementary and secondary schools have programs to meet the needs of students: international education program, arts concentration, sports studies, arts concentration, English intensive program. Bas-Saint-Laurent has four colleges (Cégep-General and vocational college). This region gives you the option of choosing a private secondary school (Métiers Québec, 2011).

Sports and recreational activities

There is no lack of activities in Bas-Saint-Laurent. Hiking, horseback riding, team roping, biking, cross-country and alpine skiing, snowmobiling, quad (ATV), kayaking / canoeing, fishing and hunting are some of the outdoor activities.  It is also possible to enjoy great outdoor activities in parks, beaches, outdoor centers, golf courses, campgrounds, summer camps and wildlife reserves. In addition, most municipalities have arenas, gymnasiums, swimming pools and other sport facilities (Le Bas-Saint-Laurent, 2009).

Bas-Saint-Laurent is home to renowned festivals such as the Festi Jazz internationale of Rimouski which hosts international artists. Several spheres of arts including visual arts, music and theater add to the culture and heritage of the region (Le Bas-Saint-Laurent, 2009Bonjour Québec). Several theaters and concert halls are also present on the territory showcasing artists from various backgrounds (ODQ, 2010).
